Pros

  • Lean and very accessible interface
  • Tons of options for customization
  • Tight compatibility with Ableton Link

Cons

  • Can't compete with equivalent desktop software

Cross DJ Pro mostly manages to pack the features you'd need in a music mixing into a mobile package. But whether or not it can serve as a viable tool really depends on how serious your tools at home are. Cross DJ Pro is more than just a toy, but it simply can't compete with serious desktop alternatives.

The first thing you'll notice is how strong the actual interface design is. The core interface is contemporary and minimalist - including all the essentials without crowding out the screen. That's important, as it's where you'll be doing all of your mixing. Two decks can be controlled with a simple twist of the finger, and the simple toggles underneath are smartly designed to provide accurate results. You can pull music directly from your phone or the cloud for either of your decks, so experimenting is incredibly easy. It will even display the album title on the decks.

Landscape and portrait mode are both supported, with the latter offering you larger real estate for a single deck. It's an important necessity for DJs who might be working with smaller phones. And while the core screen is pretty minimal, there are a number of different ways that you can customize the interface. There's a whole slew of advanced effects here with everything ranging from sampling to effects to hotcues - and all of them can be incorporated into your interface. There's a ton of potential here to create a virtual DJ booth that's tailored to your style or even just your current mood.
